I tried to look up what the opposite of grace was, but I couldn't find the right word to describe how I'm feeling. There were plenty of words (plural) but that wouldn't fit in with the one-word theme going on here. So even though it doesn't perfectly describe how Im feeling right now (which is super graceless), it will suffice, for now.
Why do we feel annoyed? I guess it comes from the idea that someone or something is behaving in a way that falls short of our own standards. A coworker doesn't finish a project as fast as I would like and makes me wait. I'm annoyed - I would have finished it in half the time! A friend cancels dinner on me at the last minute, leaving me with no plans. I'm annoyed - I would never cancel at the last minute! My mom calls me for the 3rd time today. I'm annoyed - shouldn't she know I have my own life and don't need her breathing down my neck all the time?
It takes a lot to get me angry, but when enough of these little annoyances add up, I become a very mean person. I snap at co-workers, think bad thoughts about friends, speak rudely to my mother...all the while forgetting that even though I demand so much of the people around me, I always fall short of God's standards. Everyday. Can you imagine if God got annoyed at us? If He rolled his eyes when we beg for forgiveness? If He snaps at us when we pray to Him? If he smites and throws lightening bolts at us everytime we sin? Thankfully, our God is embodiment of love and extends His grace to us even when we can't do it to others. Thats pretty freakin awesome :)
